"Leatherwork is your ability to create leather from animal skins you've hunted. You may use the skins directly or tan them in some towns for making better quality gear." - In-game tooltip

Leatherwork is used to craft gear at Leather Workbenches and to convert skins into leather through a tanning process. Skins are primarily obtained through the Hunting Skill. The tanning process requires a Leather Workbench, Soaking Tub, and Drying Rack. Locations that contain all three stations are Frontier, Bayou, and Lafayette. Salado contains a Leather Workbench but lacks the other stations.

Tanning Process

The tanning process is a multi-step process.

1. Soak skins in a Soaking Tub
2. Use a knife on the skins to clean them
3. Salt them at a Leather Workbench
4. Soak the skins with Tanning Solution in a Soaking Tub
5. Let them dry on a Drying Rack

It's possible to fill Soaking Tubs and Drying Racks with numerous skins, and it's possible to clean skins and tan salted skins in the same Soaking Tub simultaneously.
